How often should a book club meet?
Monthly suits most book clubs. Here is when every six weeks or every two weeks works better.

What each rhythm asks of people
| Cadence | Suits | Costs |
|---|---|---|
| Every two weeks | Short books, or one book split across meetings | Falls apart fastest when life gets busy |
| Monthly | Most groups and most novels | A missed month is a two-month gap |
| Every six weeks | Long, dense, or translated books | People forget the early chapters |
| Quarterly | Clubs that are mostly social | Rarely survives a year without a calendar owner |
Signs the rhythm is wrong
Several people arriving unfinished every month means the window is too short or the books are too long. Members asking “what are we reading again?” means it is too long. Fix one variable at a time—usually book length before cadence.
Pick a rule, not a date
“The second Thursday” survives; “let's find a date that works” does not. Set the next two meetings before you leave the current one.
Changing cadence
Try the new rhythm for three books, then decide. One awkward month is not evidence.
